Encouraging…

March 20, 2008 at 1:19 am (Uncategorized)

Hello, blog readers

Last night I attended a CPRS meeting in Hamilton. The session was put on for mentors and mentees and there was a panel of four guest speakers: private sector. public sector, agency and the last one I wasn’t too sure of (in fact, I really didn’t understand much of what he was saying).

In my last post, I talked about the possibility of not being ready for the real world. Last night proved me wrong. These professionals took the time out of their day to talk to students and they were actually happy to do it. This makes me think that getting out on the job won’t be so bad. There’s always someone willing to help you out.

It was encouraging to see senior level PR practitioners helping students.

Am I ready?

March 17, 2008 at 1:24 am (Uncategorized)

Hello, classmates

I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

With only two weeks left to go before we finish our classes, I find myself asking the following question: Am I ready?

Since the beginning I couldn’t wait for the end. I wanted so badly to get back out into the working world. I still do, but how ready am I? Did I learn enough in the short 8-month program? It’s amazing to think of how much I’ve learned, but my biggest fear is not knowing enough once I get thrown into the “adult world”. Will I sink or swim? (I may need water wings for a little while…)

The difficulties of blog writing

March 9, 2008 at 12:02 am (Uncategorized)

As I sit here and think about a topic for my post – nothing comes to mind. I’ve reflected on my past week and other than doing homework, nothing has happened. At the moment, homework has consumed my life and I’m looking forward to my freedom in three weeks. My evenings and weekends will soon be mine again: A time to catch up with my family and my friends – those poor people that I haven’t had much time for these past eight months.

Perhaps my difficulties of writing blogs stems from it not being voluntary. That’s right – I’m doing this for marks and not doing a very good job at it. At least I’m being honest. Blog writing is all about finding a niche and being creative with it – I can appreciate that and give kudos to the people who are able to do this with ease.  I’m not one of them.

Hopefully in three weeks I’ll have more interesting things to talk about, but for now the race to the finish line is still on. Having a year and a half off from school before deciding to come back was a tremendous help. It made me more serious and studious (that means a little boring too), but it was helpful in getting me through these tough eight months.

Back to my homework….on a Saturday night 😦
